About Olympiad

International (non-Russian) citizens, and stateless persons enrolled in either grades 10-11 of high schools for 11-year programmes or grades 11-12 for 12-year programmes can take part in the Olympiad. 

For example, if you participate in INTO HSE-2023, the winner or laureate benefits will be eligible for admission to HSE Bachelor’s programs both in 2023 and 2024.

INTO HSE is held offline and online. On some subjects there are only online competitions, the rules for each subject are on the pages of the subjects.

There are usually four stages:

1. Self-study
   Takes place before the Olympiad starts.
2. Registration
   Starts several months before the Olympiad so that everyone has time to register.
3. Olympiad events
   There is an average time interval of 10 days. Two competitions may be held on the same day, but they do not overlap in time.
4. The results of the Olympiad
   It takes about two months, but the results are published no later than December.

A subject is, conventionally speaking, the topic of an olympiad event. Subjects do not correspond to school subjects, but rather to scientific areas in which it is possible to develop. There are a total of 16 subjects in INTO HSE.

After winning the Olympiad  you may apply for a study program related to the subject.

On Youtube channel HSE teachers analyze the tasks and give advice on how to complete the Olympiad.

Last years' winners also recommend watching HSE preparation videos related to the subject.

1. A full-tuition waiver of the Government of the Russian Federation.
   It is given to the winners of the Olympiad (1st degree diploma holders) and the laureates (2nd degree diploma holders). We call it a 100 per scholarship.
   It is a quota for studying in Bachelor's and Specialist's degree programmes at any HSE campus. The quota means that you can study at HSE for 4 years free of charge and definitely get a place in one of the dormitories. No additional exams needed - only results of the Olympiad.
2. Tuition discounts, which decrease the cost of studies in commercial places.
   Laureates (2nd and 3rd place winners) as well as winners of other competitions are eligible for these discounts. Such option may provide a tuition discount up to 75%. The amount of the discounts determined for each subject separately and varies every year. 
   2nd and 3rd prize winners must pass a minimum score on the eligibility tests in order to receive their discounts. For some subjects, additional tests may be required at the time of admission.

Students from any country can take part in the Olympiad.

For example, in 2022, 5759 people from different countries participated in INTO HSE: Hungary, Congo, Romania, Gabon, Burundi, Georgia, Portugal, Malawi, Nepal, Mexico, Greece, Panama, Czech Republic, Iran, Estonia, Thailand, Zimbabwe, Guatemala, Saint Barthélemy and others.

The biggest number of participants was from Uzbekistan - 934 people. Also many students from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Moldova and Belarus participated in the Olympiad.
