About the Olympiad

Media archive Olympiad in the media

The «Higher League» is an intellectual competition open to all students and graduates eager to test their knowledge and competencies in their favorite or unexplored areas. Let's delve into the Olympiad's format to help you plan your path to success.

Number of Subjects

One, two, three... THIRTY-EIGHT! You can participate in any number of subjects and tackle tasks on multiple tracks, giving you the opportunity to earn all possible rewards!

Number of stages

The «Higher League» unfolds in two stages: the qualifying and final stages. To prepare for these stages, you can find guidance in methodological recommendations, demos, and tasks from previous years. The qualifying stage comprises several test tasks that are automatically graded, reducing the wait time for results.

Tasks

Tasks in the final stage of most areas are divided into invariant and variable parts. In this context, you will choose:

  • tasks from the invariant (general) part, which are mandatory for all participants;
  • tasks from the variable part, specific to tracks and offered for selection. Not all subjects feature tracks.

Possibilities Abound

A universe of opportunities awaits you! You can participate in the Olympiad in multiple subjects and tackle tasks on multiple tracks within a subject simultaneously. Your results will be counted at both the subject level (determining medalists) and for each track individually (revealing the names of winners and prize-winners). Don't miss the chance to make your mark and showcase your knowledge and skills!

A Brief History of the «Higher League»

The Olympiad for students and graduates made its debut in 2009. The inaugural edition saw 1,365 participants, predominantly from the Higher School of Economics. Year by year, the Olympiad gained popularity among students, with the number of participants steadily increasing. Today, more than 7,000 individuals take part in the «Higher League», matching the number of participants in the very first Olympiad. Notably, over 60% of participants come from universities other than HSE University.

The Olympiad covers a wide range of subjects and tracks, accommodating diverse professional interests. The «Higher League» provides an opportunity to showcase your potential as a competent and promising specialist.

Medalists and diploma winners of the Olympiad receive valuable benefits when applying for HSE Master's degree programs, including additional points added to their portfolio, tuition fee discounts, and other prizes and gifts.

Participation in the Olympiad is free of charge. Students and graduates from universities are welcome to join, regardless of their graduation year or citizenship status.
